Stylish Science

With girls interest in science growing, two moms have caught on to the budding science and STEM programs and created young girls clothing that portrays their science interests on graphic t- shirts, pants and other items. Typically young girls clothing options are plastered with flowers, puppies and hearts instead of dinosaurs, rocket ships, and trains… all things that children’s clothing designers have deemed as “boys only” ware. Perhaps the lack of these characters in the girls department are just one of the reasons that young girls feel discouraged from science. Two moms from Seattle, Washington have created the girls’ clothing line, Budding STEM, to bring trains, dinosaurs and rocket ships right to the front of the girls’ clothing. The mom’s idea for this clothing line began when she was searching for an astronaut costume for her daughter but only saw ones advertise for boys which discouraged her daughter from wanting to sport the astronaut outfit. This really made mom, Jennifer Muhm, want her daughter to feel confident in science character clothing as well as feeling confident to pursue a science career.
