Boston College: Another Girls for Science Campaign

Buffalo Seminary is not the only school campaigning girls for science. Boston College began their campaign in 2006 for undergraduate students majoring in science. Ms. Elizabeth O’ Day, who attended Boston College, and Harvard University for Chemistry, founded this program to show girls her enthusiasm and passion for science. She, along with undergraduate volunteer students at Boston College, led events for high school girls. O’Day led tours of the Harvard research Center, and the college students assisted with the field trips. One field trip was an organized trip to go to a Cancer Institute to view brain surgery on a mouse. These kinds of opportunities is what girls for science is all about. More opportunities is what is advertised at Buffalo Seminary, and this campaign is giving us more opportunities, as it is at Boston College. We, at Buffalo Seminary, and those at Boston College want girls to know that science is for girls too; we can do anything we want to. Having another campaign in another state shows that more students are aware of girls for science, and the next goal is to try and get as many other states as possible on board with girls for science. The more campaigns out there, the more opportunities there will be, and more teachers, students, and women can show their passion for science.
