Mars One: A Way to Explore Mars

The organization, Mars One, has given men and women from around the world, ranging from 17-60 years old, the opportunity to participate in space travel to Mars. Over the past few months, Mars One has narrowed down the large number of volunteers to 100 volunteers; all of the volunteers had to fill out an application. By 2016, the number of volunteers will be narrowed down even more to 4 volunteers. These volunteers will have to leave their family forever, and learn how to live on Mars. One big question that many civilians want to know is why are people volunteering to go to Mars if they know they will never come back to Earth. The article, “Life on Mars: Meet the five Brits shortlisted for a one-way mission to the Red Planet” by Dominic Midgley provides with the information we have been waiting for. In this article, five British volunteers explains why they want to go to mars. The first one is Maggie Lieu; she answers “It would be incredible to be the Adam and Eve of another planet”. The next one is Ryan McDonald and he want says he wants to go to Mars because he believes going to Mars will provide his goal of leaving a legacy. The third one, Hannah Earnshaw, wants to go to Mars because she has always been interested in space travel. The fourth volunteer is Clare Weedon and she believes going to Mars is very adventurous. Lastly, Alison Rigby wants to be remembered as for doing something great. Overall, each volunteer has their own reason they want to go and all find Mars to be adventurous.
